Find Alexander Technique Teachers

Jane Azul – North Fitzroy, Melbourne

Jane AzulJane Azul first heard about the Alexander technique through a yoga class taught by an Alexander technique teacher.

During the class I was learning how to do yoga postures in ways which suited my body as it was then. I became aware of, and was able to change, physical and mental patterns that were causing me pain and discomfort. I found it exciting that I could apply these principles to other areas of my life outside the yoga class.

I started to have individual lessons in the Alexander technique when I developed shoulder pain from repetitive movements at work. Not only did my pain improve, but I had a sense of freedom and ease in my whole body, and I felt more confident and relaxed. At the time that I started Alexander technique teacher training I was working as a mental health Social Worker. I often felt overwhelmed and tired at work. The skills I was learning during Alexander technique training allowed me to look after myself while I worked as a Social Worker. This helped me to feel more self-assured at work, and I noticed I got more enjoyment from my work.

Since graduating from the School for FM Alexander Studies in 2007, I have completed a Yoga teacher training course with the International Yoga Teachers Association. I am interested in how the Alexander technique can be used to make yoga both safe and enjoyable for people of all backgrounds and capabilities.

I teach individual lessons in the Alexander technique, as well as group yoga classes, which are informed by the Alexander technique. Numbers in group classes are kept small so that each participant can receive individual attention. Small group and individual yoga workshops are also available for people who want to explore the application of the Alexander technique to yoga practices in detail.

Individual lessons are available in North Fitzroy, including after-hours; Monday, Tuesday, and Saturday.
